Flags surely are an
idea that belongs to no particular community or people, but prayer flags (and I
am no historian), are synonymous with the Himalayan/ Tibetan Buddhist region and
I am sure, that no other culture, has embraced the magic of sending out prayers
and blessings via the wind, in this way, than these people…
It is a form of good magic,
cast upon the world breezes, with the highest intention, that all beings find
their happiness, find their path and develop the compassion necessary to evolve
in a positive way.
These days, all sorts
of things end up on “prayer flags” but there is something special about these
original prayer designs, created centuries ago, rich with symbolism and mantra
and infused by the collective use, of the Tibetans,
through out the generations.
through out the generations.
I feel privileged to
continue the crafting tradition, of these designs and I do so, knowing fully, that this is
an offering, a sacred business…
The deeper meanings have been shared with me and I have studied
the traditions surrounding the practice of making prayer
flags...
I keep in my mindfulness the deeper associations while making them
…
its not just a matter of printing, folding and selling.
its not just a matter of printing, folding and selling.
One small thing I can say
about my observations of some Tibetan people… that daily things, are often made into a practice,
even a small thing, such as making the first cup of tea of the morning- can have a cue associated with it, that may lead the mind to deeper, more heart felt thoughts.
even a small thing, such as making the first cup of tea of the morning- can have a cue associated with it, that may lead the mind to deeper, more heart felt thoughts.
And so too, the making
of flags, and the further practice of consecrating them in specific ways, which I
do for my own flags, before I hang them at home…
And so my creative
space is once again covered in coloured cloth, coming into a higher being by
the process of ink … becoming beautiful prayers for the benefit of all beings.

ReplyDeleteI've always wanted prayer flags. Always, always. In our house we write our wishes/dreams/prayers on paper and burn them outside (with a candle - no forest fires from us!) to spread them into the wind.
ReplyDeleteStar... you really are beautiful you know.
ReplyDeleteMuch love x
