Some bones to the glamour!

Before we left Australia, I visited a dear dear friend Spotted owl, we have a long history, and through the gracious gift of her company I have learnt many things.
There are few traditional Native American elders living in Australia and to find her when I did, 14 years ago, was truly a stroke of excellent luck.
The art of divination is very much a part of my individual and family life, many major decisions and pre beginnings pass through the ways of a reading… tarot, astrology, animal signs, dreams, Tibetan style, gypsy style all are investigated at different times, signs and messages make a subtle impact in my view and often unravel their meaning during the journey…
a little lamp to help the way!
So I asked my dear friend, a wonderful reader for the telling wisdom and have her sound advice, in my periphery…

There was mention of a jealousy energy toward this space, which is curious don't you think?

What could it possibly be... maybe the travels because it definitely couldn't be my knitting.

In a time when economic turmoil and financial insecurity sit heavily on many, one may wonder how this family of four scarcely educated, from coinless nomads and vagabond rouges, lacking in the blessings of shares, property and assets, nether whom hold a stable job or a blooming internet business can pull of international adventures.

And so to dispel any idea of grandeur one might have of us, this is the brief on how we do it. This is the list.

We have spent the last 7 years living in an extraordinary way and this has allowed us to save and forge frugal, clever habits and shed some material inclinations that create burden and keep us tied down.

For 3 years I milked cows, made cheese and butter, grew many of our foods, swapped or was given produce, bought the things needed from thrift shops or made them myself, drove rarely and had solar power, and other amazing spend less recourses at the homes we lived in. I didn’t, as I don't now, own a mobile phone and always share internet connection with others, so I saved.

We give well, help others and try to practice generosity and charity- this in turn seems to generate a magic that has us looked after well.

We work from meaningful principles; the days are long gone when just the money motivates us.
Before we left Australia we sold everything we could... It has been a beautiful journey in letting go of wanting too many things and transforming the mind to a greater understanding of our role and goals here- if you asked me what I want in life these days, you would find no particular house, car or designer craft materials on my list.

It is simply our destiny… It’s in my hand and on my chart and in the cards so to speak.
We have a network forged through good connections and genuine friendship. We are openhearted people and meet others with similar principles… The unwritten law of nomad culture is that when you open your door to a traveller it allows luck to fly in and when you travel yourself the doors always open!

We do things simple and cheaply and generally steer clear of the package tourist program, we have our own creative agenda such as our businesses, which gives shape and substance to the way we move around.

So far these last 2 months we have spent less money than in Australia to live, (Yes really) we could rein our spending in more if we needed but have found Europe and India so much cheaper than Australia in every way that we are comfortable with little cost.

And so here it is, how we get about... all very practical with just a little sprinkle from our small bag of good karma.
If you would like a reading with Spotted owl too, I could ask her for you, no promises!

  3. Hi Starr,
I fell upon your blog a week ago. I feel I was divinely guided here. Your photos, your words are so poetic and beautiful. I lingered at every page, moving back through each post. Breathing in the colours and messages within. My friend and I are very drawn to Native American ways. We both would so much love to meet with Spotted Owl if that is all a possibility. Would you please guide us to how we could do this if we can. Thank you for sharing your beauty and wisdom with the world.
    Love and blessings
    Leonie.
